What is plastic injection moulding?

Plastic injection moulding is a type of manufacturing technique which is used to create both bespoke and non-bespoke plastic products. Thermoplastics such as Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene, Nylon, Polycarbonate and Polypropylene are used in the injection moulding process as they are easily thermoformed and can be moulded into different shapes with great ease.

The process is widely used  across a wide range of industries including toy manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and cookware manufacturing sectors.

It is a popular choice of manufacturing due to the fact it can produce fast and consistent results time and time again. The process is very simple and requires little labour, therefore making it highly economical for businesses too.

How does the injection moulding process work?

The injection moulding process takes place extremely easily without compromising on the quality or consistency of the results. First the thermoplastic of thermosetting plastic in granule from is melted until it becomes a liquid form.

Once fully melted, the liquid plastic is poured into a mould that has been made into the shape of your desired product or component. Once the liquid has been poured into the mould cavities, the mould plastic is then left to cool and harden.

Once it has completely cooled down, the solidified object is taken out of the mould and will be the required project.
